As said before (link to the news) Tomb Raider 9 was announced. Now the newest sequel may include even a multiplayer.
If a console game is released with singleplayer only, it will end up in used game stores, and can't be successful. Crystal Dynamics is looking for both a senior game designer for multiplayer and a producer for multiplayer, as Gamasutra reached out.
Hopefully, this means that they're releasing it with multiplayer.

Only played tomb raider for ps1. It sounds like it would be interesting to have multiplayer, but I wonder who's going to be the other characters.

Hm... the multiplayer would have to do something special to stand out from all the other fps online today.
I only ever played Tomb Raider 1 and 2 (mainly because my friend told me there was a nude code for one of them). I never played another one until I downloaded some new Tomb Raider demo on PSN. It was fun.
Tomb Raider is sort of dead, though... Multiplayer sounds a little odd to have in it, too, but I suppose it could help revive the series...
I gave up on the series when it started being the same gameplay over and over with no improvements except for the odd tweak and an ever increasing bust line with ever plunging cleavage. The movies were the nail in the coffin.
