Combination of farm and mmorpg games possible?

There are several current farm games out there, which some you might have already seen. The goal in these kind of games is to grow plants in your small garden and receive rewards for it to grow your garden even more and make it more beautiful. This key element is now combined with features of massively multiplayer online role-playing games, or short mmorpgs.

In farm games like Miramagia you are able to choose between different classes which will change your game experience a lot. To match the play style you want, you can choose between these classes including Sorcerer, Shaman, Mage, or a Druid. Maybe you just like the look of one class better than another? Here is a video of the game to give you an impression what it looks like and what you can do:

As in many role-playing games, you can do different quests during you play time. Even daily quests are there for you to do so you can receive the promised rewards once a day. As you can see, this free fantasy browser game combines farm games with mmorpgs and features all classical elements of this genre such as dragons, fairies, and magical items.

Speaking of dragons, you as player can choose a small dragon in the game which you will raise to become bigger and stronger. When you think your dragon is good enough, you can compete with other players’ dragons and make races with them. So you don’t have to play this game alone just for yourself. You can interact with other players by challenging them, giving them a present or trade your earned stuff with them. Of course, you can just chat with them, too. If you want to customize your game experience, you can use cosmetic items and make your garden or village more beautiful. For people interested, here is a screenshot of the game:

The Change Of Offline To Online Gaming

In a time before the internet there was no discussion: Playing video games was just an offline thing. People played on consoles or PC and to play multiplayer games your friends had to sit next to you. Today, the online gaming has changed a lot, but is it a good or a bad change?

The online gaming sector is very diverse. On the one hand classic  video games  have to be bought in retail or online stores and included single- and multiplayer. On the other hand there are a lot of games which are free-to-play, downloadable and online, including an in-game financing method. Compared to classic video games, these games can either be cheaper or more expensive depending on your play style and the game itself.

Online gaming brought a huge variety of games. Just think about any niche and there will be online games to play, no matter if you want to gamble, play a shooter, role play, or a strategy game. This whole gaming variety leads to bigger competition for all of the developers and people behind every game.

From the player’s perspective, this is an advantage. For example, if you want to gamble on a real roulette table, there are only a few options close by. They can choose the admission to enter the casino and the limits of each table. However there is such a huge variety of online casinos that not a single one of them could afford an admission without losing players. It’s quite the contrary, sites like  casino.com  offer even a bonus if you play on their site. Of course the classic offline casinos have a lot of competition with the online alternative many players choose. The same with video games and the retail stores: People can just buy their games via steam without leaving their house and sometimes even buy with a big discount.

Conclusion is that many developers struggle with the enormous competition but for the players, this is just another advantage.

Arcade are backs and action packed!

Early gamers are in their 50’s: a whole industry is changing face.

Arcades are coming back and not only in the ludotheque of nostalgic retrogamers. Slot machine manufacturers have not missed the fact that the generation competing on the early arcades is now in it’s 50’s and it seems this is a period in a man’s life when he has a sweet spot for slot machines. So marketers have decided to sign with Atari to produce the Centipede slot machine. Maybe the first retrogaming slot machine ever made in this age of high definition 3D graphic.

But don’t rush to any casino thinking that you will turn your high score directly into dollars. The skills element come into action only in the bonus stages. Bonus stages are where game developers concentrate all the innovation and take inspiration from the the other branch of gaming.

For instance, in the latest NetEnt game, The creature of the Black Lagoon got a life bar and you shall attempt to shoot the Gill Man(why are you so mean?). In Aliens slot machine you shall shoot as much Aliens as possible to reach the hive and shoot down the Aliens queen. You can check those games on the newly-launched LeoJackpot casino. You will see that these high end video slots are meant to seduce the next generation of gamer who grew up with the action shooter genre and 64 bit consoles such as the Playstation. Why do I chose the PlayStation over the Nes64? The PlayStation was the console who tooks video game from a child entertainment to a more mature audience thanks to its offbeat marketing. Maybe you remember David Lynch strange commercial for the gaming console? Playstation came out in 1995 in Europe and the US (1994 for Japan) and the generation that was 13 at the time is now in their 30’s which is also a good target group for the casinos. This evolution is quite interesting because video games includes casino games for almost all its history, as stand alone title or as mini games in more ambitious games, such as RPG and now it’s the turn of video slots to draw element of game play from shooters and adventure games.

1. Hello Adrian, please introduce yourself to our readers.

I've developed software and games for the past 15 years or so, and always liked creating video games. I've played many games since I was a kid, and like both casual and non casual games. I've had many roles in the development of CivCraft, the first one being the designer and inventor of the concept. Along with Arik, who is an excellent developer and a great FPS gamer, we came up with the idea of combining two popular elements, then strap them on an open sandbox environment, and since then we're involved in every aspect of CivCraft, from designing to programming, and even helping with graphics and game play effects. Although I've worked on several other projects, CivCraft is the most interesting project I've had the pleasure to work on.

2. For someone who has never heard of your newest project CivCraft, could you tell us what the game will be about?

Well, You might say that CivCraft is a combination of First person shooter, Real time strategy and sandbox, but CivCraft is a lot more than just different game genres combined. CivCraft is built in a way that provides a whole new gaming experience. Emagine a game that allows you to chose how you want to play and how to accomplish your missions; whether to attack in first person or with an army. CivCraft is basically a fantasy RPG, where you play in first person, but in CivCraft, you are the king and control an entire kingdom making an exodus into a new and dangerous realm. In CivCraft, your task is to rebuild your kingdom and fight your enemies, and you can build cities, engage in epic battles, or explore the mystical land by yourself… well, you can do anything you desire, since anything in your world is changeable and any building or terrain can be destroyed or rebuilt. CivCraft is also a full sandbox game, that doesn’t limit you to a set of maps or rules, and is very rich on ruins, artifacts, enemies and resources.

3. Is CivCraft a singleplayer-only game, or can we expect a co-op or multiplayer mode as well?

Although CivCraft’s first release will be single player game, we’re already building CivCraft for multiplayer, and later versions will include full sandbox multiplayer, as well as a natural PvP environment.

4. Where did the idea come from to found a whole new game developer company and make a game like CivCraft?

The idea of CivCraft actually started in a restaurant. Me and Arik were working on a project, and went for lunch. Casually, we discussed about video games, and started talking about what would be the perfect game. After a short while, we realized that this concept is doable and practical, and most of all, it would be a great game play. Since then, our life's project became to create and publish CivCraft as a one of a kind game.

5. When is the release date of CivCraft and how much is it going to cost?

The release date depends on the support we’ll receive in Kickstarter. If we’ll receive high support, CivCraft may be ready by the beginning of 2015, and will even include multiplayer in the first version. Since we’ve already built most of CivCraft’s engine, we expect it to be published without delays.

6. What do you think about the future? What are we playing in the future and on which devices?

I believe that the future will remain the same, with PC’s and Mac’s and tablets, as well as consoles, but with much better and more graphical games. Nowadays it’s much easier to create and publish a good computer game, and this will only improve over time.

Thanks for the Interview Adrian. Visit Civcraft official site for more information about the game.

Minecraft Doubles Its Profit

The market of mobile gaming is growing every year and new gaming apps are launched every second. Companies like King, who developed and published Candy Crush, have hundreds of employees and make billions of dollars revenue.

Besides this mobile business, there is still a huge market for PC and console games, online and offline. Mojang, the company behind the famous Minecraft game, proves this statement with their revenue of 2013 - it doubled!

In 2012 Mojang earned 325 million Swedish kronor, roughly 51 million US Dollar. The company and their 34 employees were able to double their profit in 2013 with 816 million kronor, which are 127 million US Dollar.

Even though Candy Crush's King earned a lot more, the numbers are huge compared to their tiny team of only 34 employees. Minecraft is already 5 years old and started as a very innovative independent game by Notch. All of the apps and games, which are published everyday, want a similar success and big revenue. But not only in developing and publishing, but in playing there is a lot of money to make. Casino Spesialisten is one example of them. Although it will be difficult to make the billions of Dollars like King with the in-game purchases.

Dayz - 80 to 100 players on one server

The newest experimental patch of the DayZ Standalone game brings some performance improvements, and also 80 to 100 players on a single server. Here is an impression of one of the big cities, Elektro. A little crowded:

So far, most of the servers fit for up to 40 people playing. Even with only these 40 players, most of the popular places like the military areas or the big cities are embattled. Everyone brings what he got: Axes, crowbars, knives, guns or just their bare fists.

Now the 80 or 100 people will be a whole new challenge for everyone because food is rare, as well as clothes and weapons too, of course.

The DayZ Standalone is in alpha version at the moment. There is also the mod for ArmA called DayZ, and the standalone is based on this mod bringing less bugs, better graphics, and more features. Realism is the key feature of this zombie survival game. You have to drink, eat, watch out for diseases, fight the zombies. The possibilites are up to you, playing careful and sneaky, build your homebase and enjoy other things than fighting or just shoot everyone who moves.

The game is on top of the steam sales list right now and definitely going to be one of the upcoming big things in 2014.

Valve Looking To Revolutionise PC Gaming

Valve have finally announced plans to bring Steam Machines to the market with them revealing the first models at CES 2014.

The United States based company have revealed 13 hardware partners who are making the products with prices ranging from $499 all the way up to $6000. It was thought the new Machines would rival the next gen consoles, with you being able to play some of the highest quality shoot ‘em ups to the new casino games at Royal Vegas, but critics aren’t so sure.

The machines will run on SteamOS and isn’t expected to be anything mind-blowingly better than a Windows PC. The idea is that SteamOS will become a part of the living room, just as any PlayStation 4 or Xbox One has over the years, but with Steam for Windows offering a similar experience, is it really necessary?

It appears as though it’s gearing up to be extremely popular however. Since October the software has added 10 million new accounts, taking them up to 75 million, over 25 million more than Xbox Live.

Therefore the audience is already there for the future. Valve’s plan is to remove their Greenlight system, making it easier for small studios to get their games on Steam, and is drawing comparisons to that of the App Store, which has enjoyed over 50 billion downloads.

Whilst it is believed the hardware will not be a revolutionary, the Steam Controller also didn’t set the world alight at the Consumer Electronics Show, the large amount of games being added and already available for Windows, the community could grow even further.

It’s unlikely a minimum-$499 machine will take over the PC gaming world, especially when 90% of the Steam library can’t be used with SteamOS, and that could break the brand. Will many people take the plunge and by a Steam Machine that contains so little games? And will developers make games for SteamOS if nobody is buying the hardware?

It looks to be a little tainted from the start, but the truth is, Steam is still very healthy. It would be an impossible task for them to compete with Sony and Microsoft, but what it can do is reboot the PC gaming industry with its 75 million strong community, and increasing number of developers.
